The formative period in Alabama, 1815-1828, dissertation, [19--].

This collection contains a first draft of Abernathy's doctoral thesis. In addition to the typed draft are manuscript illustrations such as tables, maps, and graphs which show voting patterns of regions of the State on state and national issues, dates and areas of Indian cessions, origins of settlers, rivers, canals and roads, immigration routes, areas of concentration of slaves and geological profiles of the State.

Thomas Perkins Abernethy was a teacher who attended the College of Charleston (1908-1912) and received his M.A. and Ph. D. from Harvard University (1914-1916). He taught at Marion Institute (1912-1914, 1919), Woman's College of Alabama (1916-1917), and served as a second lieutenant during World War I.
